What is 'vishing' and how to protect yourself from this type of fraud?
In this digital age, cyberattacks have diversified and become more sophisticated by using various communication methods to try reaching more and more users with misleading stories to steal their information. Vishing is among the most common methods. Don’t know this term?

Below, we’ll explain what this attack consists of, and how to protect yourself from it.
Be careful when reading and interacting with emails from people you don’t know.

Vishing

Vishing or voice phishing is another type of cyberattack that uses phone calls instead of text messages. In this case, the attackers impersonate legitimate entities such as banks or technical support services. They typically use social engineering tactics, such as falsifying their phone number, to make it seem as if the call is coming from a trusted source in order to trick victims and obtain their confidential information.

How can you protect yourself from vishing?

  • Be suspicious of unexpected calls asking for personal or financial information
  • Verify the person’s identity by hanging up and calling the official company directly.
  • Never share sensitive information over the phone unless you’re sure of the identity of the person or company contacting you.
  • Avoid clicking on links from unknown and unreliable sources.
  • Remember, a company will never ask you for personal and confidential information over the phone or by text.
Caution and constant verification of the authenticity of the calls are keys to protecting yourself from these attacks. By staying informed and prepared, we can significantly reduce the risk of falling into these cyber traps.
